In 1928, my Great Aunt was hospitalized at the Presbyterian Hospital in Denver, Colorado. I wish I knew why, but from the two receipts in old family files, she was in the hospital for a

two weeks and paid under $200 - cash. Notice, "gas" was handwritten in as a charge. I can only assume she had some sort of surgery. She would have been 39 at the time of the claim.
